The wort is simmering, the yeast has been released (not pitched) and before long the finishing hops will be added. This is a hearty, soul satisfying oatmeal stout that enjoys rave reviews from everyone. I am in the middle of cooking up a batch that will age for the next 6 weeks. Various grains, Willamette and Chinook hops plus a touch of molasses combine with about 8 pounds of malt extract to make up this delicious brew. Its a great activity for a cold day such as today and a great beer for sipping beside the fire in the evening while reading a favorite book – but not tonight. Tonight we will meet at a local church for Shepard’s Table and assist in the serving of a free meal to the needy, the homeless and those who simply need the warmth of some good company.
