The mountains are beautiful, if not icy looking and it’s a chilly 18 degrees outside this morning, but deep inside the beehives my little honeybees are maintaining a temperature of about 90 degrees! That’s a 72 degree difference between the inside of their hive wall and the outside air temp. Pretty amazing little creatures. They don’t hibernate in the winter. Instead, they feed on stored honey and generate heat with a vibrating motion of their wings. This is a hard time of year for them, but they normally make it if there is enough stored food.
